Edison & Ford Winter Estates- Containing a historical museum and botanical garden on 20 acres of beautiful Florida land, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates are landmarks overflowing with historical significance. Built by American inventors and innovators Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, respectively, as winter homes, the buildings have been newly restored and are still surrounded by some of the same lush landscape that they were in the early 1900’s. Sanibel Island-Enjoy the beautiful and natural beaches of Sanibel Island, located just off the shore of Cape Coral and Fort Myers, which are overflowing with historical significance and beautiful landscapes. A barrier island that boats some of the country’s best shell beaches and wildlife refuges, Sanibel Island is a sight to behold and becoming quite the tourist attraction in Florida. Sanibel Island Shell Museum The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is a non-profit museum that features over 30 exhibits of mollusks from around the entire world. The museum focuses on shells in art and history, shell habitats, rare occurrences, fossilizations shells common to the area and so much more. Come learn about many various shells while the children discover the hands-on play area including displays, games and a tank of native mollusks. Then scoot on over to the museum store to pick up one of the many informative books on shells.
